I've been wanting this to be perfect...
but the truth is, my definition of perfection was skewed.
In early September, I created this space with high hopes.
I told myself I would open this Substack to create deeper connection with my community; a place where we can be open, vulnerable, and feel connected.
Hours, days, weeks, and now months have passed and I still haven’t written anything…
Why?
Perfectionism.
I wanted it to be perfect before it even began.
I found myself in the settings, organising things and thinking about a name, forming an “About Page” thinking about payment options, etc.
Everything other than what I actually came here for.
Connection.
So here I am… with a realisation.
Perfect isn’t a lack of flaws. In my eyes, perfectionism is a state of being.
It’s saying,
Whatever state I’m in right now is perfect.
Which is why I’m embracing perfection in the state I am right now.
Messy, ugly, beautiful, grieving, and every state in between and beyond.
… and this is what energy I’m hoping this space will embody.
Connection through Perfection—though our flaws, and our difficult moments, our happiness and our grief…
The beauty in the ugly moments, because they are all perfect as they are, just as we are all perfect as we are.
This is the goal.
So here I am. And here you are.
I’m so happy to have you here.
Although I’m not sure what this space will turn into, I know we will figure it out together.
As of now, my intention is to keep everything free for those who aren’t in a place to invest financially while offering payment options to those who are.
This may change in the future, as I learn what this space will be for me—for us—but in the meantime, I’m so grateful you’re here for the beginning stages in helping me cultivate and grow, letting it unfold as we go.
I tend to give until the point of burn out, and I am mindful of this as I open this space. I’m grateful to those who have offered payment, because that means I can give more to this community.
I’m also grateful to those who can’t (or choose not to) pay by offering your presence, comments, likes, and shares—because without you there is no community.
So whatever capacity you show up, know that I’m grateful and that you’re welcome here.
What’s your intention?
I’d love to hear from you—leave a word or phrase in the comments!
So happy to see you here, Kaitlyn!! You are one of my favourite writers - and I want to honour you for your authenticity, creativity and wholeheartedness. 💛💛
