New Moon in Taurus
Going back to simple pleasures and building a foundation that can hold our growth.
Hi, I’m Kaitlyn 👋
I write about real life through the lens of astrology. My goal is to help as many people as possible learn to love themselves for who they are—dark parts and all. I believe the parts we were taught to hide are where our true gifts lie.
I woke up feeling sick, the need to go slow had my body screaming at me—as it does when I go through periods of ignoring her. There’s something about moving from the doing to the being that is really challenging sometimes.
Unlearning and intercepting the thoughts that further perpetuate the belief that
“if it’s not hard, it’s not possible.”
or, “if I’m not in full out production mode, I will fail.”
Telling myself that resting is lazy, that I need to earn my sleep, and that the to-do list comes first above joy, until I’m sprawled on the couch scrolling on my phone to avoid all of it.
How many times do we convince ourselves that we will have fun after our duties? We can rest after a hard days work.
As women, this can wreak havoc on our bodies, as we are biologically built to flow with our 28-day cycle, much like the moon flows through her own cycle during that time.
I’ve been neglecting the things that I value—simple things such as keeping my house clean, laundry, stretching, and taking deep breaths. The little moments that bring pleasure, like savouring my skincare routine, feeling the water run over my fingers as I wash the dishes, or feeling my feet on the earth as I walk on the earth.
Pleasure—such a Venusian topic.
I’ve been wanting to buy flowers for myself, but I keep putting it off because I have to clean first, and I haven’t taken the time to pour into myself in the way I usually do, which has led to a messy house and no motivation.
No zest for life.
Today we have a New Moon in Taurus at 18 degrees. New moon energy is receptive, especially when it is in the Venus ruled sign of Taurus. It’s a time to go within, to tap into our intuitive nature that we humans often forget is our natural state of being.
It’s a reminder that we are not machines, and rest is a part of the process.
Taurus is sensual, feminine, and open to receiving. It’s the part of us that knows we’re worthy of beauty and pleasure, just by being alive and in a body.
It’s the things we value and hold dear to our hearts. It’s the comfort of clean sheets and fresh laundry, a batch of freshly baked cookies, or a savoury-sweet slice of carrot cake.
It invites us back into the body to feel the sensations we’ve been blessed with in this lifetime.
As the rain fell today for the first time in a long while, I paused what I was doing to go outside—to smell the damp earth as the scent rose from under the soil, to watch as the raindrops pitter-pattered into the homemade fish pond on my porch while the fish swam to the top to experience the freshness, too. I felt the warm, humid air turn cooler as time went by—time spent just standing and taking it all in.
Time that was valuable, and I knew I wouldn’t want to be spending it anywhere else but in that moment.
I felt the cool drops of raindrops gone rogue, splattering on the warm skin of my arm as gratitude for the moment sunk deep into my heart space. Gratitude for the reminder that these moments are always accessible to us if we’re willing to take time to slow down, and to be with our bodies—to be present with the senses.
We often make things more difficult than they need to be. We make excuses for all of the reasons we can’t be present, but why?
We wear being busy, stressed, and overwhelmed like a badge of honour when the true badge of honour should be worn in taking in the little moments that add up to a lifetime of pleasure.
As we lean into pleasure, we allow ourselves to receive—Jupiter and Uranus are holding hands with this New Moon in Taurus, offering us an opportunity to change the narrative and to call in more of what we truly desire.
Venus is in her home sign of Taurus with the rest of the beauties, calling us forward to our truest desires on an embodied level—desires that align with our values that may have shifted.
In order for us to reach our big outward facing goals, the foundation needs to be able to hold the structure. If the foundation has cracks, the whole thing can fall.
During this time, ask yourself what is needed to give love to the foundation of your dreams. Lean into the sensations you want to feel, lean back, and truly indulge in what your body is telling you.
We’ve let go of what’s holding us back during eclipse season, and now is the time to rebuild from a place of true authentic desire. Be honest with yourself, with your body, and with your soul.
Saturn is offering us discipline in building these new structures step-by-step. Anything worth working towards is worth waiting for—tap into the simple pleasures, break it down into small chunks, and start living in alignment with your true desires. Saturn reminds us that we are only in control of ourselves and our own actions—we have to take responsibility for our life and how we want to live it.
There’s nothing holding you back from embodying more of what you love, today.
Tap into your feeling body and set the “how-tos” and “what-ifs” aside for just a moment—envision the life you would be happy to wake up to everyday and start to take small steps as though it’s already happening.
You already have everything you need within you—give those parts of yourself some love. You are whole. You are worthy. You are love.
